Some may remember the dramatic siege of Iran’s London Embassy in 1980, which saw six armed men storm the building and take 26 people hostage. Director Toa Fraser brings us a dramatic reconstruction of the fateful week which saw a nation fight back.

Shot on location near the Embassy itself, this film follows the perspectives of hostage negotiator Max Vernon (Mark Strong), BBC reporter Kate Adie (Abbie Cornish), and SAS assault team leader Rusty Firmin (Jamie Bell) as they work to gain a resolution as this action-packed depiction of the true events unfolds.

Annabelle: Creation
Fri 11 Aug

The divine master of horror James Wan now brings us the latest chapter in the Conjuring universe with Annabelle: Creation. As the fourth film in this series, the American supernatural scare-fest will serve as a prequel to 2014’s Annabelle, and promises to reveal the origins behind the possessed doll that has been lingering at the back of every nightmare since you saw the first film.

The trailer alone has the ability to send shivers down your spine, so prepare yourself for sleepless nights if you see the whole thing – undoubtedly through the gaps in your fingers. Though, for a true horror film you want nothing less. Save the rom-coms for another night…

The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature
Fri 18 Aug

One for the kids (and big kids) this time. Featuring the superstar voices of Will Arnett, Kathryn Heigl, Maya Rudolph and Jackie Chan, Open Road Films brings us the sequel to 2014’s The Nut Job, which surpassed $120 million at the global box office upon its release – the biggest ever opening for an independent animated film.

With Oakton City’s mayor looking to destroy the park in order to build a dysfunctional amusement park, the animals must band together to save their homes. Led by Surly the squirrel (Arnett) and his new friend Mr Feng (Chan), the plan is simple: take back the park – by any means necessary.

Fri 25 Aug

Calling all Narcos fans: this is the film for you. Starring Hollywood heavyweight Tom Cruise as pilot, drug smuggler and informant Barry Seal, this biographic crime thriller tracks the exploits of the Medellín Cartel in the height of the ‘80s.

To add to an already impressive back catalogue including both the Mission Impossible and Bourne film franchises, Cruise reunites once again with Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman in his latest venture. Drawing on the pair’s proven success rates, American Made is set to be a dramatic and action-packed illustration of the dangers, tensions and riches that come from being a double agent in a drug-fuelled underworld.
