First Floor - James RuskinBrighton promoters, First Floor, celebrate two years of events by presenting UK techno hero James Ruskin this month. Since beginning the legendary Blueprint Records nearly 21 years ago, Ruskin has impressed with his unique techno constructions, as well as his collaborations with other artists, including people from his close-knit circle and new talent. Having been on the music scene for over two decades, London-born Ruskin is considered a major player in British electronic dance music. He will be accompanied on the night by resident DJs and party curators Charles Green and Cathal.

Regression Sessions 2The Regression Sessions team return to Brighton with their Hippy Trippy Shakedown: A Psychedelic 60s Trip, a throwback to the Summer of Love. Founded in 2012, this party has a reputation as a must-attend event whenever it tours the country. Their motto of providing ‘serious music for silly people’, means that the nights are non-stop fun with top quality artists and a hell of a lot of confetti. This trip to the seaside brings with them Granite State, a house, techno and electronica DJ, who has played at some of the UK’s finest event venues – including Studio 338 and Motion – so is bound to get the crowd bouncing. He’s joined by Mista Bounce, Moucha and Naked Jake, with a few surprises yet to come.

1 BRIGHTON FM: FM LAUNCH PARTY

Since 2015, 1 Brighton FM have been broadcasting radio shows online and on DAB but as of this month they will be gracing the mainstream airwaves as they hit FM. Clearly cause for celebration! They are throwing a launch party that will take over Mono for an intimate 200-person party, with a Funktion One sound system and a number of special guests. The London-based Phil Mison will be taking advantage of the booming system to play some balearic and electronica tuneage, alongside Keyboard Masher’s disco grooves and Gardenn’s exciting house and techno. This is the first club event 1 Brighton FM have hosted, you can expect there to be many more…

BRADLEY ZERO

Bradley ZeroIn the second edition of Patterns Curated By series, the Marine Parade club welcomes Bradley Zero, a figurehead of the UK music scene. Since founding Rhythm Section Institution, a long-running dance night in a pool hall in Peckham, Bradley Zero has built a career on the London music scene as a broadcaster, selector and label boss. His fortnightly dance at Canavan’s is a firm fixture on the capital’s party scene. Patterns have got him on board to curate four parties throughout 2017, with him performing an extended set as the first night rolls out. Alongside him will be Chris Headcount, Mehtola and Nosebone.

This popular night returns for its second live event, at the legendary Volks nightclub.  James Black will be hosting a quality evening of 4/4 madness, but this time he is bringing some friends! Brighton’s own SMX Project will be joining in, to ensure maximum soundsystem carnage with their unique blend of tech house and techno. Black will then be rounding the night off with an all-out assault of upfront and classic trance riffs and synths. The basement sees Balazs Hadi and friends provide a different vibe; with hip-hop, funk, soul and classic house. With an early opening, free entry and a unique, famed sound, this is one Sunday night not to miss!

HIGH FOCUS - Jam Baxter Press Pic 7High Focus Records bring you a jam-packed night of talent on the Concorde 2 stage. Headlining is Jam Baxter, a key player in the underground hip-hop scene and a member of infamous Contact Play and SMB crews. The show will be the album launch of his new record Mansion 38. High Focus founder Fliptrix will also be bringing it, along with Leaf Dog, Strange U, Verb T, BVA, Onoe Caponoe, a Pete Cannon jungle set, Rye Shabby and Molotov. The record label will also be selling their merchandise throughout the night.

CRAIG CHARLES FUNK AND SOUL CLUB

Craig Charles is touring the country, yes THAT Craig Charles, of Red Dwarf and Robot Wars fame. The former Coronation Street star has forged a career as a successful broadcaster presenting his popular BBC 6 Music primetime show. He’s now touring his show around the country presenting his Funk and Soul Club. He’s been a radio DJ since 2002 with his weekly Saturday night slot, playing everything from classic tracks to new releases and is well-known for platforming lesser known artists. His live show is bound to have everybody on the dance floor, with his acting background and showmanship he gets the whole crowd involved, dancing and singing all night long.

PENDER STREET STEPPERS

Two of the hottest selectors on the Canadian music scene are heading to Patterns. Jack Jutson and Liam Butler, collectively known as Pender Street Steppers have a relaxed, funky style of DJing, playing nights of vintage disco, house and their own ‘earthy’ productions. Their original Mood Hut nights started out as an intimate party series in Chinatown, Vancouver but has since spread across the world through a network of shows and collaborations. They’ll be playing alongside Patterns residents Charles Green, Ollie Terrey, Chris Headcount and Gardenn with William Wiffen. Footshooter and Caldera are also spreading the love. This is an intimate basement party for those that know.

It’s back. The 80s club night for people who hate 80s nights. Jenna and Simon Price, founders of the legendary Stay Beautiful glam night, head to Komedia for an evening of alternative classics and cheap drinks. Playing tracks from 1979 to 1985, they call Tubeway Army on Tops of the Pops their ‘Year Zero’ and the Live Aid concert their ‘Doomsday’. A motto of ‘all killer no filler’ certainly rings true with a collection of classic tunes playing all night: goth, new romantic, post punk, alternative rock, indie, synth pop and ska. Whether you remember it first time around or are looking to discover the real 80s for the very first time, get ready for crimped hair and smoke machines aplenty, the ‘Campaign for Real Eighties’ starts here.

EnticeWhether it’s garage, house, drum and bass or R&B that you’re after, Entice is the night for you. With a headline set from Pied Piper and MC DT, you already know you’re going to spend all night on the dancefloor. The garage collaboration is responsible for the 2001 summer anthem Do You Really Like It? which, despite being 16 years old, is still blasting out in clubs up and down the country to wild appreciation. DJ duo Shapes combine commercialised vocals with bass-heavy anthems completely live on the decks, their spontaneity mixed with their provision of something to sing and dance to simultaneously brings an unbelievable energy in every venue. Accompanying will be Little Nikki, Kruel Intentions and A1, alongside Room 2 headliners Carly Carmen and Outbreak.
