Best of Brighton Comedy – March 2017

BRIDGET CHRISTIE
Sat 4 March
Brighton Dome

Bridget ChristieThe comedian who made feminism funny, aptly comes to Brighton on International Women’s Day. Her political, straight to the point jokes can create a sea of laughter whatever your political perspective. Whether you voted to stay in the EU, leave the EU or leave the EU but now regret it, you would be sure to enjoy the terrific meltdown of a liberal comedian. Her column, Bridget Christie’s Weekend, and her performance at Edinburgh Fringe, has gained her much praise and many awards. She is a comedian with a growing reputation, appearing on TV shows such as Have I Got News For You and Room 101. In this dark, gloomy world of politics, Christie will be sure to make you see the bright side of things.

STAND UP & SLAM
Weds 15 March
Komedia

Brighton’s Komedia welcomes back Stand Up & Slam in an epic battle of spoken word poetry vs comedy. Six acts go toe-to-toe for the audience’s approval, with unexpected and hilarious results. The resident team captains will be joined by some of the most exciting comedians and poets from around the UK. The event is an alternative comedy experience that will make you laugh as much as, if not more than, conventional stand-up. Their performance at 2015’s Edinburgh Fringe gained great acclaim, and it went from strength to strength last year. Now we’re excited to see where this alternative style of funny will take us this year. Either way, it’s sure to leave you in stitches.

Tony LawTONY LAW
Sun 19 March
The Old Market

Multi-award winning Tony Law somehow manages to find his way to Brighton with a tour name that makes less sense than his material – A Law Undo His–elf What Welcome. Law talks, let’s face it, absolute nonsense, and he is closer than ever to the dialogue of insanity. However he takes this gibberish and transforms it into golden content. There are not many people that can turn up to a gig and suggest their tight outfit is currently creating violence in Liverpool due to their own negative thoughts about life, but Law somehow can, and he can make it funny! He’ll be bringing absolutely nothing remotely mature to The Old Market.

MARK THOMAS – THE RED SHED
Tues 21 March
Ropetackle Arts Centre

Mark Thomas - Red Shed Mark Thomas concludes his multi-award winning trilogy of performances back where his career started a red, wooden shed. Prepare for a story of strikes, fights, dinner ladies and commies. Crap beer, great beer, burgers and burger slingers. Pickets, placards, friendship, love, history, dreams and above all, remembering. His performance is a mix between theatre, stand-up, journalism and activism. The audience will be able to get involved (in a surprisingly nice way) in order to be able to recreate the infamous(ish) Red Shed. Thomas is best known for his political stunts on his show The Mark Thomas Comedy Product, he will be delivering educational yet humorous material to a very interactive audience.

CARL DONNELLY
Thurs 23 March
Komedia

Carl Donnelly The down to earth, common comedian is coming to Brighton as part of his Bad Man Tings on tour. Donnelly presents his material as if you were having a normal conversation with him. It’s his style to take things which would normally come up in conversation, but elaborates on them humorously. In his relatively short career, Donnelly has appeared on many comedy shows, won the Edinburgh Comedy Award twice, and has performed all over the world. Bad Man Tings is travelling all over the UK and stopping in continental Europe before arriving at Komedia. Donnelly’s rapid rise to fame, as well as his international popularity, proves that he is likely to leave you laughing all the way home.
