Comedy shows in Brighton - November 2011
By Louise Cooper
After an abundance of incredible comedians this October it’d be reasonable to think that comedy for November would have dried up, I assure you this is not the case. As Brighton still has comedians big and small to tickle your funny bone. First stop is on Saturday 5th of November at The Red Brick Comedy Club, Upstairs At The Three and Ten, this well established monthly show sees the best in current comedians, this month is hosted by Mark Simmons and starts at 10pm and is £10/8 entry. On Sunday 5th of November for the gay friendly Bent Double at The Komedia, this is a rather civilised affair where you can sit and savour fine food and drink whilst being entertained by the even finer Best Newcomer Award Nominee 2007 Zoe Lyons, doors are at £6:30 it‘s £19:50 for the meal and show, a true bargain in my book! Though make sure you get there early so you can get a good table, sit with your friends and order food.
There’s also Brighton’s very own part of the nationwide Laughing Horse Club at The Quadrant, where every Saturday you can encounter new and established comedians with compere Sajeela Kershi for a mere £6/5. Meanwhile on Friday 18th November the ever popular comedy quiz format hit’s the stage at Upstairs At The Three And Ten with The Quest For Universal Genius. Hosts Mark Allen and Eli Silverman set two comedians against each other in a test of wits; in fact wit is actually one of the categories on which they’re tested, as well is etiquette, poetry and hunting. Strange and hilarious. Doors at 8pm for £8/6.
This month’s big name in an intimate venue is the hysterical Henning When as he brings his Slightly Premature Xmas Do for three whole dates at The Caroline Of Brunswick. As well as his No Surrender stand up show he’ll be treating his audience to some er… “traditional” German Christmas carols. Expect bizarre humour with possible references to Jesus Christ inventing the Heinz Treacle Sponge. November 22nd, 23rd, and 24th doors 7:50pm for £9.50.
