BRIGHTON COMEDY FESTIVAL 8th - 23rd October 2010
There are a number of delights of living in Brighton – the sea, the European cafe culture, the thriving gay community, BN1 Magazine, not being in London being amongst the forerunners. A very welcome addition to this list though is the annual Brighton Comedy Festival.
Although a relative newcomer to the circuit, the festival has fast become one of the most popular and well thought of events, which attracts the very best comedy this country has to offer. And let’s be honest here, we do comedy a LOT better than anyone else......
So, enough of the self congratulatory waffle, what do we have in store for this year? Well, a veritable feast that’s going to be a struggle to condense into 300 odd words, so we’ll just try and pick out a few of our favourites for you.....
Comedy Festival Gala – October 8th
Okay, so it’s a hefty £30 a ticket, but proceeds are going to the worthy Sussex Beacon charity and for that you get Michael McIntyre, Alan Carr, Adam Hills, Andi Osho, Simon Evans and Phil Nichol plus more guests to be confirmed. That’s superstar-tastic, so what are you waiting for?
Frankie Boyle – I Would Happily Punch Every One Of You In The Face – October 11/12th
Everyone’s favourite angry Scot returns with his charmingly titled new show. You know what to expect – buckets of vitriol, a high curse-count and intermittent filth. Perfect night out.
Stewart Francis – Tour De Francis – October 15th
We love Stewart Francis here at BN1 and we’re not alone. A genuinely sharp creator of classic one liner comedy and observational genius, his humour is timeless and this is surely one of the shows not to miss.
Rich Hall – October 15th
Look how we look after you here. If you’re at the Corn Exchange having seen Stewart Francis at 19:30, why not stay on, put a beach towel on your seat and watch the hilarious Rich Hall straight afterwards. I mean, can your humour cup take much more before overflowing? Can it? Challenge yourself......
Frisky & Mannish (pictured) – The College Years – October 22nd
Still criminally underrated (all the better for the connoisseurs), Frisky & Mannish bring their particular, peculiar and brilliant mix of music and comedy once more to the festival. If you’re sitting there thinking “who?”, you should lash yourself forty times with a birch branch and get on the phone to book tickets. Now. Utterly brilliant.
Now listen here Brightonites. That’s just a brief brushstroke on a comedy canvas you’d be mad to miss. I mean we haven’t even mentioned Jimmy Carr, Jerry Sadowitz, Sean Lock, Alex Zane, Jack Whitehall et al. I mean it costs money this printing lark you know. Suffice to say that there’s a plethora of fantastic laughs awaiting you in October, so get involved. You know you want to.
