Eastbourne Extreme Festival

Get your adrenaline pumping at the annual Eastbourne Extreme festival, happening on Eastbourne seafront on the weekend of the 16th and 17th July. As one of the biggest free extreme sports festivals in the UK, it promises an action-packed line-up of water, land and air-based activities.

For water sports lovers, there will be two ‘Extreme One-hour Classic’ windsurfing races in addition to ‘masterblaster’ and relay races as well as powerboat racing. There will also be Stand-Up Paddleboard races with experts on hand to give tips, with demo boards available to brave punters wanting to give it a go.

Kiting enthusiasts can enjoy displays of power kiting, kite land-boarding, kite buggying and kite surfing from the South East Kiting Association and if you want to have a crack at power kiting, there will be some pros giving one-to-one supervision at Princes Park.

If you’re more comfortable on land than you are in water or sky, there’s plenty to choose from, besides the impressive skate park competitions. A mixture of Volkswagen Campers, Beach Buggies and Beetles will set up on the beach for the VW Bus stop Annual Show and Shine competition and if urban exercise is your thing, then you can catch the Urban Shadows Parkour team, who will demonstrate a type of free running.

A new event this year is Zero Gravity Biking where Chris Doney, one of the world’s best freestyle mountain bikers will perform some fearless displays with his stunt team. Also new is the UK debut of the Street Surfing S Ramp, bringing its 360° Rampage tour to town. The ramp offers riders the motion of snowboarding crossed with surfing, but on the street!

If you need to catch your breath, relax and take in events such as the final of the local Battle of the Bands competition on the live music stage and grab some grub from the shops and food stalls.
