Kemp Town Carnival

Kemp Town Carnival
 SATURDAY 4th JUNE
One of the best things about living east of the Old Steine is the Kemp Town Carnival right on your doorstep. The annual jamboree, which takes over the length of St Georges road for a day, can only be described as the funkiest village fete you’ve ever attended.
This event aims to celebrate the local community of one of the more eccentric areas in Brighton, as well as promoting local talents. By providing a space for locals to display and take part in creative activities, from street performance to music workshops, art exhibitions to craft stalls, they hope this will become a sustainable event to showcase all that makes the heart of Kemptown so special.
If you can’t wait till June 4th for these festivities, then there are numerous fund-raising events planned for the next couple of months to get you in the mood.
The Concorde 2 does its bit on Saturday 9th April as it hosts the Kemp Town Carnival World Roots and Global beats Party. London club night Movimientos and Brighton's CooktheRabbit are teaming up to host a melting pot of world, roots, Latin dub and reggae!
Featuring Brighton's hottest Cumbia outfit, Pollito Boogaloo, who will be serving the crowds with Colombian roots at its finest. Alongside them will be Peyoti for President. Who will be mixing up ska, Hip Hop, flamenco, urban street, global Beats & samba, opposing musical lethargy whilst calling for a 21st century uprising!
As if all the live music wasn’t too much to handle Brighton's Legendary dub roots and reggae crusaders, Roots garden, bring their heavy weight roots reggae along for the night. Laying down some tasty platters will be DJ's Robin'D'Rich and Movimeintos' own DJ Cal Jader. Get your tickets now fromTickets from Rounder, Resident and Adaptatrap.
Wednesday 13th April features a Battle of the Bands at Latest Music Bar. This will be a classic showdown of local musical talent, but the prize up for grabs is the glory of filling the opening spot on the main stage at the Kemp Town Carnival itself, plus VIP tickets to the official after-parties.
There will probably be two fat ladies and a garden gate at Latest Music Bar on Friday 22nd April for Bingo Killed the Bongo. There are some great and not so great prizes to be won in this night of Bingo fever. Hosted with a good deal of filth and smut by the amazing Shambush troupe, expect fun, nonsense and extreme bingo challenges....all accompanied by some tropical-tastic tunes!
Then, if your bingo wings are aren’t aching enough, Downstairs sees a fantastic selection of guest bands, including The Tracy Sullivan Band, the Triple Chicken Combo and the Black Hats.
If you’re feeling glum on Thursday 28th April, then get down to Latest Music Bar again for comedy with Charity Chuckles. Featuring a sublimely side-splitting selection of the finest comedians held together by Kemp Town's very own Mr Chuckles. As if that wasn’t enough for one evening there’s live music after, provided by Elbows Deep & The Wizards Sleeve, Malarky and The Morning Orchestra.
