Fullers Golden Pride.
My dad only ever afforded me two pieces of worthwhile advice. The first; never trust a man who doesn’t drink is a priceless adage that has served me remarkably well. The small handful of “men” I have met who don’t drink have revealed themselves to be utterly untrustworthy. The other piece of advice; try Fullers Golden Pride, a beer for men who do drink. The brewery that produces the ever popular London Pride is also responsible for this 8.5%(abv) brute. Before it even met my lips I could tell this was one hell of a beer from the deep hoppy aroma emanating from the glass. On drinking I was surprised to discover a well balanced smoothness that belied its 8.5% alcohol content. It is crammed with rich malty overtones and delivers the sort of punch Ali produced to despatch George Foreman in the eighth round of their epic 1974 heavyweight bout ‘Rumble in the Jungle’. After I had finished my second bottle I was feeling proud and golden. By the time I had finished my third I felt much like Foreman probably felt as he sat on the canvass contemplating the phenomenon that had just battered him to the floor. This is the Rolls Royce of real ale, a beer to be regaled and respected in equal measure. My advice, proceed with caution. Thanks dad!
Available at Waitrose £2.39 500ml bottle.
