The Round Georges

Situated on the corner of Canning Street, up from central Kemp Town, lies a splendid public house known as the Round Georges. As soon as we entered we got a warm sense of belonging in this friendly and appealing local gem of a pub.  With plenty of seating arrangements in and outside including a newly refurbished function come fine dining area, complete with gallery work from local artists and photographers.

It didn’t take us long to realise that this is a pub that prides itself on top quality gastro food (served 12 till 3pm and 6 till 9pm Monday to Saturday), with exquisite home cooked roasts on Sundays. With such an enticing menu on offer we sat down to sample some of their food delights. We went for the very modestly priced 2 course lunch offer for just £9.95 and opted for the ham salad for starter and a slow cooked pork belly for main. Both dishes were cooked with finesse; the pork belly was cooked to perfection with a melt in the mouth flavour alongside consistent and crunchy crackling.

I was then informed that they pride themselves on freshly preparing everything on the premises with all cure meats locally sourced and supplied by Bramptoms Butchers, a local butchers in Kemp Town.

It’s also refreshing to see the landlord increase the number of Ales on offer with the addition of Black Sheep, which has a light and hoppy flavour and medium brown colour and is also modestly priced at around £2.60.

It was clear that plenty of effort has gone into making this pub welcoming for anyone who passes through or is regular, upholding restaurant style gastro menus, live entertainment and community values. This is also with the added bonus of live sports, which is rapidly becoming a rarity now in Brighton. This pub has it all, including the popular Quiz nights every Monday evening.

We recommend visiting this pub for the food alone! Especially the Sunday roast, which includes a mouth watering organic Goodwood leg of lamb & mint sauce or the Walnut, stilton & mushroom loaf.
