Making a very welcome return to the coast this summer is the team behind the explosive and acclaimed house-classical fusion Hacienda Classical, bringing their brand-new and updated spectacle to Brighton Racecourse this September.
Hacienda Classical is the incredible project created by an unexpected blend of two of the north’s biggest musical talents. Well of Manchester, to be exact. The Hacienda, the infamous club once powered by legendary label Factory Records (home to Happy Mondays and New Order), has teamed up with the finest experimental and contemporary orchestra in the city – Manchester Camerata. This genius combination set on a course to breathe a new lease of life into the classic dance anthems that once shook the iconic striped beams and raised the roof off The Hacienda, defining a whole generation decades ago.
Featured in the Channel 4 documentary Hacienda House Orchestra, the show follows Mike Pickering and Graeme Park, two seminal DJs responsible for shaping The Hacienda’s original sound, accompanied by some very special guests. This celebrated collaboration with Manchester Camerata resulted in one of the most innovative, meticulously arranged, classic reinventions you’ll see for a long time. Now in their second year of shows, Hacienda Classical promise an all-new setlist for a whole run of shows up and down the country – coupled with the guarantee for a truly inspirational night.
As The Hacienda’s dance heritage collides with the complex world of classical music, Hacienda Classical has won widespread critical acclaim. Phenomenal demand surrounded a whole string of sell-out performances at some of the country’s biggest venues last year, with gigs selling out in just minutes. Just a few of these include London’s Royal Albert Hall and a lightning-quick selling show at our very own Brighton Dome during last year’s Brighton Festival.
Not only did the show receive an impressive five-star review from The Times, but Hacienda Classical also gained a following from renowned DJ and clubbing press Mixmag, who described the night as “a near two hour blend of house music’s greatest players with an audience dancing and singing from the off.” But that’s not all. “Dazzling mirror-ball speckles are flung out over a crowd whose jubilant euphoria almost blows the roof off,” they continued to say. If that hasn’t convinced you, we don’t know what will.
As a celebration of the incredible success of the live shows that have taken place so far, the collective have also released Hacienda Classical, an album packed full with an exciting acid-soaked collection of classicised club anthems integrated into the full live set of the former show. Just a few of these reworks include Someday, You Don’t Know Me and the illustrious track You’ve Got The Love – available to purchase now through Sony Music.
Described by NME as “the best rave since 1997”, this is one special night of soaring synths, euphoric drops and all the massive tunes you ever wanted to hear – reminiscence with a modern classical twist. You wouldn’t want to miss this for the world.
Hacienda Classical comes to Brighton Racecourse, Freshfield Road, Brighton, BN2 9XZ on 9th September.
