As with many seaside resorts, Brighton & Hove descends into a near-hibernative state in the winter months. Even if the crowds of tourists are dwindling away it doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of things going on to keep you occupied.
Every year the Royal Pavilion hosts a picturesque skating rink. You can skim across the ice under the picturesque regency grandeur of the city’s most iconic building. It caters for all ages and abilities, along with offering entertainment and great food & drink on site. There are few experiences more festive on the south coast.
Head to the Theatre
Located on the popular New Road, Theatre Royal Brighton really hits its stride during the winter months. It offers a range of musicals, comedy shows, tours and theatre productions, from huge touring shows to special one off events. The stars are not just on the stage, this historic building and it’s beautiful decoration only adds to the glamour.
Go to the Wild West (virtually)
While Grand Theft Auto Online still welcomes millions of players every day, most thoughts are turning to Tockstar Games’ next release – Red Dead Redemption 2. The sequel to their genre defining wild West epic, this iteration is purported to the game everyone will be talking about. On Fri 26 Oct, we’ll know what the fuss is about.
Head to Brighton Museum & Art Gallery
While sometimes overshadowed by its neighbours – Brighton Dome and the Royal Pavilion – Brighton’s museum hides a plethora of delights. Featuring the city’s rt collection, an in-depth local history, a captivating look at furniture design and an exceptional fashion gallery. If you bring along proof of residence, it’s also free for the locals.
Watch a Film at the Duke of York Picture House
The UK’s oldest purpose-built cinema, this much-loved local attraction screens everything from the biggest blockbusters to the most avant-grade independents features. It regularly hosts special seasons and events, and can project celluloid presentations, setting it apart from your usual disinterested, grubby multiplex.
Make your escape
Brighton & Hove is blessed with several puzzle rooms. Our favourite is Lady Chastity’s Reserve, at The World’s End. Part team game, part surreal immersive experience, this compelling exercise tests your wits to win a bottle of ladyship’s finest aphrodisiac wine. Of course, the lure of alcohol isn’t the only thing luring us in. Up to six players undertake puzzles, riddles and hilarious challenges.
