Rising from the ocean and parading down the length of Brighton Seafront, nearly every form of ocean life took to the city’s beaches at the weekend. Brighton & Hove’s annual March of the Mermaids brought droves of pirates, mermaids, mermen and sea creatures together in the name of marine conservation.
Beginning at Hove Lawns more than 750 people sporting various sparkly and striking costumes took part in the spectacle. It was supported by WhaleFest, Brighton’s annual marine conservation festival.
Modelled on the famous Coney Island march in New York, the event was arising money for the World Cetacean Alliance, an alliance of whale and dolphin organisations across the world. BN4’s David Smith was to capture all the colour and magic of the day.
