REVIEW: Safe to Swim, Green Door Store, 7/11/2018

After appearing on Apple Music’s “Best of the Week” playlist and being debuted on BBC Introducing Kent, Brighton based indie quartet Safe to Swim released their newest single ‘Friends’ on Wednesday night at the Green Door Store.

Safe to Swim have caused quite a stir in the Brighton music scene since the release of their debut single ‘Struggling’ back in early 2017 and have been lucky enough to have had features in major music publications such as NME, DIY and Clash.

Wednesday 7th November saw Jim, George, George and Joe perform ‘Friends’ for the first time amongst their other much loved tracks. Charismatic front man Jim exuded energy and charm throughout the entire set and instructed the entirety of the crowd to chant the lyrics along with him whilst adorned in a playful orange boiler suit. One fan likened the group’s attire to that of “colourful ghostbusters”, a phrase that we think should definitely be a part of the band’s bio.

The single that is conveniently titled ‘Friends’, saw an influx of fans new and old, for which the band expressed their gratitude to everyone (especially their friends) who came down to support them.

The single was definitely worth the wait for fans, with ‘Friends’ being their first release in over a year. The indie-pop hook driven track proved infectious to the crowd, leaving both the audience and the band in electric sprints.
