Remember Victoria Wood? How could we forget! One of the most talented and frankly hilarious comedians to ever grace our screens. The decades she gave us of brilliant sketches, plays, musicals, films and sitcoms will stay in our hearts, an exceptional approach to entertainment that seems rare these days. But, do not weep, for VICTORIOUS! – a Victoria Wood Tribute show – is in Brighton as part of the Fringe season, a compelling tribute to Victoria Wood herself and the legacy she has left.
This one woman show, devised and performed by musical comedian Hannah Brackenbury, has been a huge success since its debut at The Warren on Tues 8 May, with the show adding an extra date after huge demand following its initiation. Brackenbury will be performing some witty classic comedy songs alongside poems and original numbers inspired by Wood’s work that will have you on the floor with laughter.
Hannah says: “I’ve been performing her songs as part of my comedy sets for many years, but after she died I wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to do to carry on using her material. Eventually I started getting requests to sing her songs again and the reactions were just so wonderful that I decided the time was right to put together a proper tribute show to celebrate her genius and to keep her music alive”.
Which is something we are so grateful for, as Wood’s uniquely delightful style was one that guaranteed to leave you smiling, as will VICTORIOUS!
Audiences are saying: “Sharp, on point, fabulous entertainment and a moving tribute to Victoria Wood. A thrilling and gripping show that touches the soul. Victoria would be honoured and proud.”
You’d be downright silly to miss this exceptional performance, filled with laughter, nostalgia and a load of energetic musical pieces.
Tickets are now on sale for the extra date scheduled for Thurs 24 May and the 1, 2 and 3 Jun at The Warren and can be purchased online or via The Warren Box Office – 01273 987516 or here.
