The 16th annual Conker Championship is set to take place at Langham Brewery, all in aid of Chestnut Tree House Hospice Care in Sussex. On Sunday, 8th October, from 1 pm to 6:30 pm, the event is an inviting autumnal family gathering held at a picturesque ‘brewery in a barn’ near Petworth.
Langham Brewery invites sports enthusiasts of all ages, including adults and children, to partake in this daredevil competition that combines both skill and a hint of danger. Entry into the competition is priced at just £5, with every penny going directly to Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice. Attendees can simply pay on the day, with cash being the preferred method.
Two distinct competitions are on the docket: one for junior conker champions aged 8 to 15 and another for seniors. Both competitions will abide by world championship rules, and the organizers will provide all the conkers. The stakes are high and the atmosphere competitive.
Adding to the enjoyment, the venue will feature an impressively stocked bar complete with award-winning ales, soft drinks, and snacks. Cocking Farm Shop will offer traditional fare, and attendees can expect fabulous live music, dancing from Victory Morris, as well as a variety of stalls offering gifts, a tombola, face painting, cake decorating, and much more.
The event culminates in the awarding of the Langham Cup to the senior champion and a special trophy shield for the junior champion. It’s an event not to be missed for those who might be considered just a bit ‘Bonkers for Conkers.’
For those interested in participating or learning more, all details can be found on the Langham Brewery website. However, if competitive conkering isn’t appealing, free entry is available for those who simply wish to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the array of attractions on offer.
