Families looking for something a bit different to do this half-term will find a whole range of events for children of all ages. Experience something new at Brighton Dome at events that the whole family can enjoy.

Dive head-first into the world of teen-spy Alex Rider with author Anthony Horowitz; fairy tales come to life at Drag Queen Story Time and discover the beauty of dance through contemporary ballet Giselle.

Fans of Alex Rider can join best-selling author Anthony Horowitz on Sun 27 Oct as he shares what inspired him to write the famous undercover character. The successful series of books and graphic novels was adapted into a film in 2006 and is about to come to TV screens soon. Horowitz has written over 40 books and is one of the UK’s most prolific writers.  At Brighton Dome he will be in conversation with Brighton-based author Elly Griffiths, reading excerpts from Alex Rider: Secret Weapons and signing copies of the book.

Delight in Drag Queen Aida H Dee’s unique style of storytelling on Tues 29 Oct in a safe space where children, teachers, carers and parents can encounter LGBTQ+ representation in a fun and educational way. Audience members are encouraged to present and dress as they wish in this inclusive, family-friendly event.

Aida H Dee says ‘Children are curious and accepting. Teaching them that “different” is not bad is key to the eradication of forms of hate, not just homophobia. The question I often get asked is: “Are you a boy or a girl?”. The answer I give is, “I am whatever you want me to be!” According to one boy, I’m now a unicorn’.

Following a successful run at Sadler’s Wells, acclaimed South African choreographer and dancer, Dada Masilo presents her fearless re-imagining of the iconic tale Giselle. Suitable for children aged 12 and above, the energetic performance follows the story of a young girl dealing with romantic heartbreak. Masilo brings a modern interpretation that combines ballet with both contemporary and traditional African dance styles.

Budding dancers aged 16+ with some experience of performing are being given the unique opportunity to learn from Dada Masilo’s dance company. On Weds 30 Oct, members of The Dance Factory Johannesburg will teach a class in Masilo’s style. Participants will also get a special discount on tickets to the show.
