Brighton set to host a gaming extravaganza this summer

Gaming fans are in for a treat this summer, with Brighton set to stage one of the fast-growing growing development conferences in the United Kingdom.

The organisers of Develop:Brighton have revealed the first set of speakers for the event including representatives from Electronic Games, Epic Games, Firefly Studios and Ubisoft.

The conference incorporates ten tracks covering every gaming discipline, making it the ideal place to find out more about the latest innovations in the industry.

Whether your passion is mobile, coding, slots or something else gaming-related, there is something to suit every taste at the three-day event.

Organised by Tandem Events, Develop:Brighton attracted around 5,000 attendees in 2023 and the figure is expected to increase this year.

Tandem Managing Director Andy Lane said: “Develop:Brighton is back for 2024 and gives delegates the opportunity to gain insight from some of the very best the game dev community has to offer.

“Whether it’s a talk or a roundtable discussion, everyone can benefit from coming to Develop, whatever your level of experience.

“We’ve chosen speakers that will allow the conference to cover a wide range of topics across fields, disciplines, and platforms that we know attendees are looking to hear about.

“These range from artificial intelligence (AI) to narrative design, from creative marketing to creature design, with even more to be announced in due course.”

The line-up of speakers this year includes Charity Joy, who is currently the general manager of Electronic Art’s UK-based Criterion Studio.

Joy will be speaking at ‘The Art of Leading Leaders’ session, where she will offer insights into managing people who are experts in their respective fields.

Another standout name amongst the speakers at Develop:Brighton is Charles Cecil MBE, who has been an influential figure in video game development for over 40 years.

The BAFTA award-winning designer will feature on a panel alongside several other leading names from the industry to discuss narrative games.

They will explore how to make narrative games on a budget and where emerging technologies such as virtual reality (VR) and AI fit into the modern gaming landscape.

Tandem has also confirmed the first keynote speaker for Develop:Brighton 2024 is Caroline Marchal – the founder and creative director of INTERIOR/NIGHT.

Marchal has worked in the gaming industry for more than 20 years, and brings a wealth of knowledge to the table following her work with Sony’s London Studio

INTERIOR/NIGHT’s first game As Dusk Falls was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Debut Game, and won several accolades at The Game Awards including Games for Impact.

The programme for this year’s event has been shaped to reflect previous attendees’ feedback and hot topics for game makers in 2024.

AI generated content, discoverability & player acquisition, and monetisation are some of the key themes which will be explored during the conference.

The event also features the prestigious Develop:Star Awards, which pay tribute to the very best of the game development community.

There are 20 different categories designed to celebrate the achievements of developers, the success of great games and creativity within the industry.

The award ceremony also features a special ‘Develop Star’ accolade to honour an extraordinary studio or game developer for outstanding contributions to the industry.

Develop:Brighton 2024 takes place at the Hilton Brighton Metropole from July 9-11. Various passes are available allowing visitors to cherry-pick which parts of the conference they want to attend.

There is also a full three-day conference pass for anyone who wishes to fully immerse themselves in the event, while students, academics and small studios can take advantage of special rates.
