Something a little bit different. The History of Heavy Metal brings us extraordinary stories of larger-than-life characters living to excess. Wonderfully whimsical transvestite headbanger, dabbler in black magic and Edinburgh Fringe regular Andrew O’Neill has combined his two loves – stand-up comedy and heavy metal – in his latest solo show.
The show brings the audience into the worldwide network of rabid fans escaping everyday mundanity through music and the cut throat corporate elites ripping off those fans and the bands they worship to line their pockets and everything in between. Whether you’re a metalhead or not, O’Neill’s exhilarating hour-long comedy history of his beloved musical genre is both fascinating and frequently funny.

Brighton’s legendary satirical comedy goliath, The Treason Show, returns for its record breaking seventeenth year this month with the usual satirical silliness and salacious songs. Founded in 2000 by artistic director, Mark Brailsford, the show has travelled around a bit – running for nine years at Komedia before setting up shop at the Brighton Dome Pavilion Theatre in 2010 – quickly becoming an institution in the city’s vibrant comedy scene.
After a sell-out runs at this year’s Fringe, and a hit musical charting the disintegration of Southern Rail, the Treason team is back at the Ropetackle, with their team of over 40 writers and sketch performers working hard on a show to wow its audiences with fastmoving, gag-a-minute sketches.
