Brighton’s Big Screen 2017

Brighton’s Big Screen is back with a Summer movie bonanza!

28 July – 28 August 2017

Brighton’s Big Screen is back this year for its sixth year running. Big Screen Beach Events are hosting this open air cinema on the beautiful setting of Brighton beach, just seconds from the Palace Pier. The cinema will premiere on July 28th with the first two films to be shown on the big screen being Oscar award winning Harry Potter spin-off ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ followed by ‘Kong: Skull Island’.

The official launch night, which 75,000 people attended last year, is taking place on the following day with BBC 6 Radio, Giles Peterson, taking the stage for an atmospheric soiree filled with music and film.

Gilles will be accompanied by music producer and DJ, MC Earl Zinger and a host of bands and musicians including Freak Power (originally founded by Norman Cook, AKA Fatboy Slim), who have reformed especially for this summer.

Three films will then be shown each day until August 26th on the 40-square metre cutting edge LED screen. New and old classics will take the screen including Beauty and the Beast, La La Land, T2 (Trainspotting), Jaws, Dirty Dancing, Pulp Fiction  and plenty more to satisfy everyone’s taste!

On Sunday 30th July, BBSE will also be hosting one of the semi-finals of the British Street Food awards, and to get the filmgoers taste buds tingling, four laugh-out-loud movies will be screened – Ratatouille, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Willy Wonka and Chef.

Then, in August towards the end of the shows, August 26th, BBSE will screen iconic 70’s classic Quadrophenia, which includes a live Q&A with stars of the film, including leading man Phil Daniels.

This will be followed by a performance and 60s themed video show by ‘Who’s Next’, widely regarded to be the number 1 Who tribute band, and a DJ set from Drew Stanstall (ex-member of ska legends, The Specials).

The fantastic movie month finishes on Bank Holiday Monday (28 August) with showings of ‘Toy Story’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’.

BBSE Managing Director Bill Murray said: “We’re Europe’s largest outdoor cinema and are screening almost 100 classic films on Brighton’s famous beach. Anyone coming along is guaranteed an amazing time.”
