Farah has been worn proudly for almost 100 years by some of the world’s most stylish men, and they pride themselves in combining fashion with culture and the imagery of time. This Wednesday 6 Dec, Farah is officially coming to Brighton, launching their new store.
Proud of an intrinsically British identity which associates itself very much so with the youth cultures and style tribes .of the 70s and 80s, Farah has heritage, something not typically found in the fashion world presently. Yet they never rely on it as they create their own story through attire to remain relevant in the world today.
This years stunning and classic Autumn Winter campaign goes back to the era of Westbourne Park 1975: a time where men had not much other than fashion to assert their social standing amongst peers. The sound system culture of the ’70’s and emergence of Notting Hill Carnival provoked men to dress to impress as they go out to dance. Farah uses these influences of this decade taking inspiration from night club posters, carnival sound systems and record sleeves to capture the vibrancy of life in Westbourne Park 1975.
Italian knitwear, made from 100% Italian Merino Wool, is what some of this warming yet stylish range will consist of. Not forgetting the material that sits well on any man: hopsack, with the collection comprising the classic Denby yoke back and Basset chino as well as the Leinster coach jacket and iconic Mcgregor blouson.
The Elkstone, Woodfield and Heathstan knits draw inspiration from original imagery of young men at Notting Hill Carnival. Whilst and an eclectic mix of artistic designs, executions and print placement are on offer taking direction from the retro geometric shapes and patterns used on the tube seat designs at the time.
Farah AW 17 has an abundance of outwear for those icy winter days including pop over cagoule, a lightly wadded ripstop funnel neck and a classic snorkel parka, all with an individual twist. Boundaries are blurred creatively with outwear and shirts including a zipped shirt with bomber collar, a lightweight 4 pocket overshirt a kangaroo zip shacket and a heavy duty shirt with pleated pockets.
This seasonal collection is perfect for the season in Britain, not only comfortable yet suave, but a style of nostalgia that we can’t help but love. Why follow the crowd of the modern trends of today, when you can blend contemporary with classic and retain a sense of individualism.
