Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) and his daughter Nelly have signed four exclusive murals by Brighton street artist Cassette Lord; which will go to auction on Fri 8 Nov to help Friends of Hove Lagoon (FoHL) fundraise for their new ambitious planting scheme.

The four murals by Cassette Lord are:

    Geisha

    A Woman’s Face

    Asian Cat

    Ice Lolly

All paintings are sized 120cm by 60cm, and have been generously donated by Cassette Lord, also known as Martin Middleton.

The auction will take place at 10.00am on Friday 8 November 2019 at Brighton and Hove Auctions in Woodingdean. Bids can be taken at the auction house or online by a live webcast.

“We love the murals that Cassette Lord has painted for us,” says Sue Johnson, Secretary of FoHL. “We are so incredibly thankful to him for donating them and also to Norman and Nelly Cook for signing them. They’re really special and we hope that they will create a real buzz at the auction.

The funds raised through this auction will go directly to creating a new planting scheme at the Lagoon which we hope will soften and improve the landscape, as well as attract more people and wildlife to this much-loved area.”

The auction follows LagoonFest 2019 at Hove Lagoon; this took place on Sat 7 Sept to raise funds for the regeneration of the area. Nicholas Dexter is designing the new landscape for Hove Lagoon, and Nigel Bowcock of Acre Landscape will manage the landscaping. The design will be consulted on comprehensively in conjunction with local residents, businesses, as well as FoHL supporters, before it is finalised. The hope is that this project will be a springboard to redevelop other areas within Hove that might require an uplift, including the Hove seafront lawns.

The project is led by volunteer Chris Flint and supported by Chair of FoHL and local Councillor Robert Nemeth and FoHL Secretary Sue Johnson.

Brighton & Hove City Council have provisionally approved Saturday 5 September 2020 as the date for the next LagoonFest.

Friends of Hove Lagoon are a group of local residents and businesses who have got together to protect and improve Hove Lagoon.
