First Wave of Artists Announced for Secret Garden Party 2017
The award-winning Secret Garden Party has got us all excited after announcing its first wave of artists for 2017’s festival, taking place between 20th and 23rd July in the heart of the charming and picturesque Cambridgeshire countryside.
The first two headliners are confirmed to be electro-pop band Metronomy and legendary reggae artist Toots & The Maytals. Also confirmed are Honne, Jagwar Ma, Jeremy Loops, Rejjie Snow, Tom Misch, Akala, Deap Vally, Ray Blk, Zak Abel, Etta Bond, Let’s Eat Grandma and Anteros, with many more to be announced.
Metronomy will be making a very welcome return to their spiritual home in the Garden, having first played all the way back in 2008. Band founder Joe Mount recalls: “The last time we played Secret Garden Party was in 2008, for one reason or another we don’t remember it very well… I do however have vague memories of Oscar shouting obscenities repeatedly at a saxophonist and by the end of the night they were very close friends, what more can I say? We can’t wait to come back and create further bonds within the horn playing community.”
Second headliner and Jamaican reggae royalty Toots & The Maytals boast a career spanning an incredible six decades. Formed in 1961, they produced classics such as ‘Funky Kingston’ and ‘Pressure Drop’, hits that went on to be covered by The Clash and Amy Winehouse to name but a few.
The independent festival has also announced this year’s theme, wild as ever: ‘Sweet dreams… are made of these?’, a cheeky tease about the celebrity and Instagram-crazed world we live in.
