Food for Friends and Pure Leaf launch new limited edition menu

Accepting Brighton in all its weird and wonderfulness, it’s not much of a shocker to hear about the latest foodie trends. The newest one of 2018 is brewing with two in five Brits (40%) wanting to know how to pair tea with unexpected savoury food.

That’s why local favourite and award- winning vegetarian restaurant, Food for Friends, will be championing the latest trend on the food scene – pairing tea with food – as it partners with Pure Leaf, a new premium range of expertly crafted and sustainably sourced teas. Guests will have the chance to try a range of different taste sensations, the contemporary restaurant will offer a unique dining experience rooted in flavour.

Pure Leaf in collaboration with Food for Friend’s head chef, Maria Hellin Rico, and the premium tea brand’s Tea Sommelier, Joyce Muendo have worked closely together to assemble a divine menu which attendants can indulge in. Just a few of the exotic combinations that will be on the menu will be:

• Raw beetroot ravioli, nut cheese (V) paired with Pure Leaf Black Tea with Berries – the sunset red hues of the tea, the berriness in the taste and aroma are perfect with the beetroot base of this dish
• Harissa roasted baby carrots, baba ganoush (V) with Pure Leaf Chai Tea –the spicy ginger in this tea marries with the carrots to create a fabulous symphony of taste
• Crispy Violetta artichokes, goats curd with Pure Leaf Green Tea with Jasmine – the light floral notes of this tea amplify the taste of artichokes whilst rounding off smoothly the goat’s cheese.
• Asparagus, hazelnuts, baby leeks, Burford brown egg with Pure Leaf Black tea with Vanilla – adds an indulgent note to this brunch or small plate.

Maria Hellin Rico says: “As a chef at a sustainable vegetarian restaurant, cooking without meat relies more on flavour and unusual combinations and our dishes are all created with that in mind. Pairing premium expertly crafted Pure Leaf tea with our vegan and gluten-free dishes seemed like a natural innovation to our new menu, especially as we find our customers always looking for dishes rooted in new food trends”

Sharon Hall, Chief Executive of the UK Tea and Infusions Association, said: “As a nation, we continue to be driven by new foodie experiences, and paired with our increasing passion for the fascinating and versatile flavours tea provides, we predict that the next few years will see a huge emergence of tea and food pairings. As more and more people discover the new ways that tea can be used with food to complement the taste of dishes, it’s an art that looks set to completely change how we think about tea and how we consume it in the future.”
