Buckle your seatbelts parents, half term is approaching. This can be a real tough week for families because, as with the changeable weather of England’s Autumn season, though there may be events and activities planned, that doesn’t necessarily mean the kids will want to go, or that you won’t get soaked. Worry no more fretful parents, for children aged 0-11 the Hijack Children’s Festival is back, this time hijacking The Komedia from October 22nd -26th. This enthusiastic festival aims to, “to inspire, challenge and surprise audiences through a range of unique, cultural experiences.’ while also embracing, ” the inquisitive nature of children with participatory activities or ones which introduce new ideas and innovative ways of looking at their world.”
This year the festival is presented by Kids at Komedia for its 3rd edition of this bi-annual event. The venue will host a massive rave at Junior Jungle (+2 years), get interactive with a punk inspired messy play Bless This Mess, include four hours of creative fun at Sundae Club (2-8 years), and a music concert about human emotions, The Bad Mood.
Having received funding from Arts Council England, Hijack will also be working with local artist David Parker of Figment Arts to run a project at Bevendean Primary School and The Bevy pub between Saturday 22nd to Wednesday 26th October. Groups will make a short film at the end of their experience and these will be shown at a screening on Wednesday at The Bevy. Anyone aged 6-11 years is welcome to take part this event and pupils of Bevendean Primary will be eligible for free tickets.
