Joe Webb’s ‘Laika’ Snowpuppy silent auction tonight

Brighton’s artrepublic gallery will unveil a new Snowpuppy tonight, becoming the first dog to be publicly auctioned in aid of The Martlets. Designed and painted by Brighton artist Joe Webb as part of Snowdogs by the Sea, the art trail launched city-wide last weekend. The rest of the pack will be auctioned off in December so this is a unique chance to bag yourself a pup before anyone else.

Lindsay Alkin, Director at artrepublic said: “We’re really excited about revealing the Joe Webb Snowpuppy. We’ll be hosting a silent auction on the night and the winning bidder will get to keep the Snowpuppy once the trail has come to an end. It’s been fantastic to see how much people are interacting with the dogs since the launch and they will become fantastic pieces of memorabilia in years to come.”

Known for his spacescapes, Webb’s pup has been named ‘Laika’ after the first dog to travel into space. The puppy has a space theme with a retro Brighton twist. Half the size of the dogs, the pups are suited to smaller spaces around Brighton & Hove.

‘Laika’ will go on display in the window of artrepublic on Bond Street for the duration of the art trail, after which it will travel to the home of its new owner, the winner of tonight’s silent auction.

A limited edition Joe Webb print will be released at the event and visitors will have a chance to meet the artist, hear about his work and enjoy complimentary drinks. The Snowpuppy reveal and silent auction will take place this evening, Weds 28 Sept, between 6.30pm-8.30pm at artrepublic gallery, Bond Street, Brighton.
