Komedia saw three prestigious Chortle awards this week. The Brighton venue’s monthly gay-friendly comedy club Bent Double, hosted by Hove’s very own Zoe Lyons, picked up awards for Best Club Night in the UK and Best Club Night in the South.
Taking place at Komedia on the first Sunday of the month, Zoe Lyons (above) started the club over ten years ago, seeing it grow over the years to be one of the most successful nights at the venue. Lyons not only MCs at every show but also handpicks the line-up, so it appeals to Brighton’s gay crowd as well as regular comedy goers. Zoe was delighted to collect the award saying,
“I am so very delighted that Bent Double has won two awards at the recent Chortle Awards,” Lyons said. “I’ve run the gig for nearly ten years and I can honestly say I look forward to each and every show. We have built up such a loyal gay following over the years and I take great pleasure in knowing that the acts who perform at the shows rate the gigs and the audiences so highly. It is such a fun night, here is to the next ten years!”
Komedia Brighton also picked up the award for Best Venue in the South for the twelfth time in 14 years, whilst their sister venue in Bath scooped the Best Venue in the West and Wales.
Zoe Lyons and Bent Double come to Komedia Brighton on the first Sunday of every month.
