Danish indie outfit Lowly arrive at the renowned Brighton Electric Recording Co on Fri 28 Oct, as part of an exclusive three-date UK tour. Initially brought together to fulfill part of a short music project at school, the fivesome (comprising Nanna Schannong, Kasper Staub, Thomas Lund, Soffie Viemose and Steffen Lundtoft) immediately bonded – forming a chemistry many other bands take years to establish. Seemingly appearing from the abyss back in April 2014 with the release of the hypnotic Daydreamers, their masterfully rich sound has already put a spell on hundreds of thousands worldwide, their tracks being streamed on Spotify more than half a million times.
Effortlessly cool as their Nordic peers, with similarities to singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Farao, Lowly paint electronic-acoustic soundscapes of atmospheric pop complete with booming drums, melodic vocals and reverberating synths – the individual influences of each member culminating to give Lowly a truly unique sound. At times intricate and sensual, the fascinating rhythms of drummer Steffen offer a stark contrast to the intertwining melodies of Soffie and Nanna’s vocals. Combined with fluid basslines and keyboard riffs, their music emanates a mystical air, showcased in perfect harmony with their collective mounting confidence. Emotionally driven tracks from their 2015 EP Sink Way Into Me – Fire and S.W.I.M. – are set to be the standouts as they demonstrate the direction of their set to have limitless possibilities.
With recent live appearances having been received elatedly, the band have been tipped as one of the best young live bands of the year, and are definitely not to be missed.
Lowly come to Brighton Electric Recording Co on Fri 28 Oct as part of their UK tour, with support from special guests and DJs from the Bella Union label. Doors at 7.30pm. Tickets here.
