Middle East Review: The Best Entertainment Activities for Brits in Arab Countries

The Middle East has become an unlikely tourist destination for British citizens in recent years, with several Arab countries boasting a plethora of entertainment attractions.

To save you time and effort, we have racked our brains to come up with several exciting ways you can amuse yourself on your next visit to the region.

Saudi Pro League

The Middle East is on a mission to become a global powerhouse in sports – a point evidenced by the recent rapid growth of the Saudi Pro League.

Previously dismissed as a footballing backwater, Saudi’s top clubs have been splashing the cash to sign numerous top players from major European leagues.

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the first players to jump on the Saudi bandwagon, and many more have followed in his footsteps.

If you fancy watching some of the world’s most famous footballers showcase their talents in unfamiliar surroundings, check out a Saudi Pro League game.

Online Gaming

Online gaming is another sector where Middle East nations are striving to make their mark after relaxing their previously strict laws governing such practices.

Several countries are in the process of establishing a formal regulatory infrastructure for iGaming, which has opened the door to a whole new world for Arab-based players.

The safe and secure sites at haz-tayeb.com/en/ offer players the chance to play a vast array of casino games including blackjack, roulette, slots and more.

With many of the iGaming brands familiar to Brits, you can now indulge your passion for online gaming throughout your time in the Middle East.

Dubai World Cup

If you prefer your wagering activities to be of the top-class equine variety, a trip to Meydan Racecourse should be high on your list of things to do in the Middle East.

Meydan staged more than 20 meetings during the 2022/23 season, including the international Dubai World Cup Carnival from January through to March.

This festival of horse racing is headlined by the annual Dubai World Cup meeting – which features nine Group races and a total prize purse of over $30 million.

The spectacular day of action is topped off by the Dubai World Cup itself – a prestigious dirt race with an eyewatering £12m purse.

IMG Worlds of Adventure

British visitors to the Middle East searching for something a little more family oriented would be well advised to check out what IMG Worlds of Adventure has to offer.

Located in Dubai, this attraction was the first indoor theme park in the world and boasts a vast array of rides for thrill-seekers young and not so young.

This mega park has ‘Epic Zones’ with rides themed around Mavel superheroes, Cartoon Network characters and dinosaur adventures.

Younger visitors will love the IMG Kids Zone – an inflatable playground covering an area of over 17,000 square feet.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

Firmly established as the top promotion in global mixed martial arts, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) regularly stages major events in the Middle East.

Abu Dhabi first hosted the UFC four years ago, when Khabib Nurmagomedov successfully unified the lightweight title by defeating Dustin Poirier at UFC 242.

The UFC is heading back to Abu Dhabi later this year, with the city set to host a week-long schedule of events to celebrate the promotion’s 30th anniversary.

UFC 294 will be headlined by the lightweight title clash between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira, with the former tipped by top betting sites to retain the belt.

Formula 1

Formula 1 (F1) has forged strong links with the Middle East in recent years and now stages four races in the region during the course of season.

The 2023 calendar kicked off with the Bahrain Grand Prix in March, while the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was staged later the same month.

F1 returns to the Middle East later in the year, with the Qatar Grand Prix scheduled to take place at the Lusail International Circuit during October.

The season culminates in late November at the spectacular Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi – a race which often determines who wins the Drivers’ Championship.
