Fri 3 March

Michael B. Jordan returns as the titular pugilist, while also making his feature directorial debut. Although this is the first instalment in the popular Rocky franchise to not feature Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa. Joining Jordan is Tessa Thompson as Bianca Taylor and Jonathan Majors as Damian “Dame” Anderson, as thehigh-tempo sports action gets personal.

Adonis “Donnie” Creed is at the top of his boxing career, and has a fluoridising family life, when a childhood friend resurfaces. Dame is a former boxing prodigy, whose career was cut short by a prison sentence. Donnie puts his future on the line to battle Dame – a fighter who has nothing left to lose.

Willem Dafoe plays Nemo, an art thief who enters a collector’s penthouse apartment hunting for valuable works of art. As he enters, the security system locks everything down, and then malfunctions. At first, he expects his partner-in-crime to arrive, then the security guards or the police. But no one comes. 

Days stretch into weeks and months. This is a prison adorned with exquisite pieces of art, which he covets but are now useless. Nemo must use all his cunning to survive, breaking into locked spaces to find all the food and liquid he needs. The luxury penthouse first becomes a torture chamber, then a place of revelation.

Following a series of bizarre murders, the survivors attempt to move on with their lives. Melissa Barrera (In the Heights, Keep Breathing), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Yellowjackets), Mason Gooding (Ballers, Booksmart), Jenna Ortega (Wednesday, Jane the Virgin), Hayden Panettiere (Nashville, Heroes) and Courtney Cox all return to their roles in the franchise alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato and Samara Weaving.

Sisters Samantha and Tara Carpenter, and twins Chad and Mindy Meeks, are leaving Woodsboro behind and hoping to find a fresh start in New York City. But soon they realise the Big Apple is being plagued by a new Ghostface killer and a new string of grisly deaths.

SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS

Zachary Levi, Asher Angel and Jack Dylan Grazer star in this 12th superpowered instalment of the DC Extended Universe. Billy Batson can transform into incredible superheroes by saying “Shazam!”, bestowing them with the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury.

Billy, along with his foster siblings, are forced back into action when the Daughters of Atlas threaten to use a weapon which could destroy the world. There’s also the small matter of travelling to make peace with the Gods, because Billy has been taking their powers for granted. Naughty.

Fri 24 March

Woody Harrelson, Cheech Marin and Casey Metcalfe bring us an inspirational sports movie to warm any heart. A former minor league basketball coach is compelled to manage a team of players with complex educational needs. It’s based upon a 2018 smash-hit Spanish film called Campeones, which was in turn inspired by the true story of the long-running Valencian Special Olympics team, Aderes. 

Directed by Bobby Farrelly (There’s Something About Mary, Me, Myself & Irene), the film features an authentic cast of performers, many making their feature debuts. This gentle comedy sees a hapless series of missteps, but soon everyone realises that if they work together, almost nothing is impossible.

Keanu Reeves returns for another masterclass in how to incapacitate a bad guy with any object to hand. Joining the frantic, gun-toting, action-packed fun is Donnie Yen (Rogue One, Ip Man), Bill Skarsgård (Atomic Blonde, Divergent), Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix, Boyz n the Hood) and Ian McShane (Lovejoy).

The titular, and rather annoyed, hitman has incurred the wrath of The High Table – a council of crime lords which governs the underworld’s most powerful criminal organizations. His path to freedom and peace involves defeating a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe, and forces which turn old friends into foes. Strap in tight, it’s going to be wild. 

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: HONOR AMONG THIEVES
