This year’s MTV Brand New Unsigned winners, Of Empires, will be making their The Great Escape debut this year. The Brighton band will be appearing at Komedia, on Fri 15 May at 2.30pm, on the Reeperbahn stage.

The band have been creating a buzz since the release of their debut EP at the end of 2014, seeing them praised by The Guardian for their “stomping, slow-motion riff-rock with snarling vocals and terrace-worthy choruses.” Their single “I Want You To Get Mad”, was recently aired on the Huw Stephens show on Radio 1, with the video also play-listed at the beginning of the year on MTV Rocks. The band’s notoriety has caught the attention of many, including The Rolling Stones legend, Ronnie Wood and British rock idol, Adam Ant, who personally invited the band to open his sold out show at Concorde 2.

Progressing from Brighton’s coolest clubs to Europe’s biggest festival for new music, the band are continuing to gain a devoted fan base, infecting the city with their own brand of reverb drenched rock ‘n’ roll. As well as appearing as part of the main programme for the festival the band will also perform at an intimate free showcase at Neighbourhood on St James Street, Sat 16 May at 4pm.
