Using co-working space during the current pandemic is a lifeline for some independent and small businesses looking to network, grow and not be confined to the agoraphobia of the living room.
So it is nice to hear that Projects, Brighton’s independent co-working space in the heart of The Lanes, is expanding at a time where demand for flexible office space is on the rise following Covid-19’s impact on remote working and the traditional office.
The new three-storey development of 3,000sq foot will be situated behind Projects’ flagship, grade II listed building on Ship Street and will connect to existing space through a private outside walkway.
Artist’s impressions of the new venue (seen above and below) set to open in May 2021, showcasing two floors of dynamic office space which will accommodate up to 60 people. The ground floor will feature a members’ gym complete with showers and fitness studio.
Beth Lewis, managing director of Projects, said: “This city has an amazing blend of start-ups, disruptors and creatives who work hard and compete with London businesses, but also want to lead a healthy, balanced life. They have always been the inspiration behind Projects and the reason we exist – to provide a professional setting that supports a balanced life in a practical way, hence the gym development!
“Covid-19 has had a huge impact on the way people work and want to live. As a result, we’re seeing more and more local employees of national brands who would ordinarily be commuting to London, becoming members and spending that commute time in healthier ways like coming to lunchtime yoga or mindfulness sessions. I believe what we’re seeing at Projects is illustrative of a growing working trend across the country and will have a positive impact on the mental health of the office-based workforce.”
Projects, which first opened its doors in Jan 2019, is currently home to a diverse mix of 150-plus members, businesses and charities. Deliveroo, Micro Scooter and GoDaddy are amongst the most well-known brands who work from Projects.
