The Saltdean Lido CIC (SLCIC) is encouraging anyone interested in lifeguarding for the 2023 Season to get in touch. Not qualified, don’t worry, working in partnership with Wave Leisure Trust, the CIC is offering to provide the required NPLQ training for FREE!

“This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to gain a lifeguard qualification for free and be best placed for a summer job, working outdoors at the iconic Saltdean Lido. In addition, for anyone looking to work in the sport and physical activity sector, this is your chance to get a foot in the door.”
As commissioning works get underway for the pool to re-open for the summer season the recruitment process is well underway.
Nina Taylor, Wave’s Aquatic Co-ordinator said, “we’ve reached out all secondary schools, 6th Forms, Colleges and the Universities across Eastbourne and Brighton and surrounding areas. I’ve also been in touch with all swimmers over the age of 16 at both Brighton and Shiverers Swimming Clubs.”
Derek Leaver, SLCIC Chairman said,
‘With the planned opening of the fully restored stunning Art Deco site later this year we are building a brand new team and have a new partner in Wave. We also want to invest in the community and so are offering free training for nationally recognised life guarding qualifications for people of all ages. There’s no upper age limit as long as you’re fit -and you get to work outdoors in a fun environment for the summer!
Derek added: “Despite many community pools closing around the country because of energy costs, we will be keeping Saltdean Lido open but, ironically on the back of the pandemic, recruitment for key roles in the leisure sector, like lifeguarding have become a real challenge nationally.”
Saltdean Lido will be running National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) Courses, for anyone looking to work at Saltdean Lido as a Lifeguard or Supervisor during the Easter Holidays. The cost of the NPLQ will be fully funded through the CIC, in return for a commitment to work at the Lido for the 2023 summer season.
Age range: 16 years old at start of the course – no upper limit.
