Snowdogs by the Sea auction raises £337k for Martlets
The well-loved Snowdogs by the Sea installation has been auctioned off in Brighton raising £337,000 for the Martlets Hospice, Hove. Brighton Dome’s Corn Exchange hosted the auction, with some of the bidders taking part online, as the lots were sold by auctioneer Tim Wonnacott (Bargain Hunt and Antiques Roadshow).
The Snowdogs took their positions in Brighton & Hove from Sat 24 Sept – Sun 27 Nov, creating a challenge to visitors and locals to spot all 44 of them. The highest winning bids were for Max at Hove Museum, Boomer at Hove Lagoon and Smiley in the North Laine.
Artists from the city, as well as further afield, were selected by sponsors to create a unique identity and design for each sculpture. Many artists drew inspiration from Brighton’s unique history, seafront location and iconic architecture.
The trail was organised by Martlets, in conjunction with Wild in Art, one of the UK’s leading creative producers of public art events.
