Sussex County Cricket Club has confirmed that they have been granted planning permission for the development of new offices in the north-east corner of The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground.
The club has taken the opportunity to develop space at the Cromwell Road end of the ground. They have been given the green light from Brighton & Hove City Council to commence development, which is planned to begin at the end of the 2015 cricket season with the planned occupation date for the units being from Jan 1 2016.
There will be five new office units developed, which will be available to local businesses wishing to run their operations from Hove. Each one will be approximately 65 square metres in size with full office specifications, including air conditioning and access to on-site parking. A sixth unit will be developed as a conversion of the existing catering unit in the north-east corner. This will give employment opportunities for approximately 30 new jobs and will bring the number of employees based at the Hove ground to around 130.
The background of this proposal is part of the business plan adopted by the Board to develop the sustainability of Sussex Cricket. The aim is to build different revenue streams to enable Sussex to compete with the counties who host international matches, and continue to develop their community activities.
Some of the units will have pitch-side views looking across ground and Chief Executive Zac Toumazi said, “We’re delighted to be granted planning permission to develop the north-east corner of the ground and we believe that we can make this project a complete success.
“We look forward to hearing from a number of businesses and organisations who wish to base their operations in the unique location of a world famous cricket ground, home to the oldest professional sports club in the world.
“This project will add to our goal of being a unique facility available for the use of the local community all year round, and not just during the cricket season”.
Appointed letting agent Phil Graves of Graves Jenkins added, “We are positive the offices will prove to be popular to business occupiers being in such a truly unique location. They will be built to a high specification and we plan to launch the marketing of the same during the summer, but are happy to receive some early expressions of interest from now on in”.
Hove-based architects Miller Bourne were appointed to advise on the planning application.
