The History Boys will be returning to Theatre Royal Brighton for a limited run from Mon 9th – Sat 14th Feb. The play, which was recently voted the nation’s favourite play in a national survey, has won over 30 major awards including the Olivier and Tony Awards for Best New Play.
The History Boys follows a group of bright, funny and unruly sixth formers in pursuit of sex, sport and a place at university. Their maverick English teacher is at odds with the young and shrewd supply teacher, whilst their headmaster is obsessed with results and league tables. Staffroom rivalry and the anarchy of adolescence overflow, provoking insistent questions about history and how you teach it. Their A Levels may be over, but their true education is only just beginning.
Premiering first at the National Theatre in 2004, the Nicholas Hytner directed piece helped launch the careers of James Corden (Gavin & Stacey, Into the Woods) and Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger, Dracula Untold) who would go on to star in a film adaption of the show. Theatre Royal’s production stars Richard Hope (Doctor Who), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Doctors), Steven Roberts (Hollyoaks) and Joshua Mayes Cooper (Holby City).
