It was only right that Brighton born band The Magic Gang, started their 12-date headline tour in their hometown; and it was even more right that they had Our Girl and Vitamin to help them kick things off.

Starting the night, Brighton three-piece Our Girl welcomed the crowd at Patterns with a grunge-pop bubble, filled with rumbling feedback, immersive looping and heavy build-ups. In between songs they didn’t give too much away, filling the gaps with a few ‘thank you’s and smiling glances across the stage. I liked this, and I liked them.

Prodding our grunge bubble with a big 80s pop finger were our second band, The Magic Gang’s main support, Vitamin. I couldn’t quite place Vitamin. All I knew was that I liked them. With super catchy choruses and pop-tastic drumbeats, this band gave me the Patrick Swayzees. I would definitely recommend them as one of your five a day.

Last but not least were headliners The Magic Gang. This happy foursome was everything I hoped they would be, with added smiles on top. There was nothing not to like. Not only did we sing along to Alright and mosh to Feeling Better we also managed to squeeze in an obligatory crowd surf at the end. With those low ceilings, was an impressive feat. The Magic Gang are incredible songwriters as much as they are as musicians, and I kind of get the feeling they’re nice guys as well. If you’re looking for a summer soundtrack, these guys are it.
