It is not often the God of Thunder sets up shop in the middle of a city, but Brighton now has Thor’s Tipi bar opening for the festive season. We ventured down on a blustery night to check out this exciting new pop-up on Jubilee Square.
Beside Brighton Library, the towering Tipi comes into sight. First impressions are very inviting, a huge lit-up sign saying ‘THOR’S BAR’ adorns the doorway and a cosy atmosphere beyond is enough to entice anyone. There was also a lovely festive feel to the place with an open fire pit surrounded by plenty of tables and chairs – all draped in faux-fur and seasonal decorations.
Near the entrance, there are seated benches facing a fire, bathed in a lovely authentic aroma. On the drinks list, a range of lagers, pale ales, Guinness, cocktails, mulled wine and cider should suit any warrior’s tastes. So, in true Viking spirit, we relaxed next to the burning logs and got stuck into some deliciously warm mulled wine, shortly followed by a scrummy hot chocolate mixed in with orange rum.
What about food I hear you bellow? Well, the talented guys from Wolfsmouth were on hand serving up some amazing burgers (12pm – 10pm daily). I went for the Tennessee bacon and maple burger, which was worth going to Valhalla for. The perfect combo of ingredients to make a taste explosion and something I would heartedly recommend. My companion had their Vegan offering…. and said it was one of the best burgers she’s had! Not too sloppy and not too solid whilst bursting with flavour.
The place is perfect for after-work (or pillaging) drinks and special weekend outings. Or a quick pitstop while contending with the busy shopping chore, which undoubtedly will be the other reason you are in this part of town this month. Christmas has arrived in the form of a Norse God, so get cosy and enjoy it while you can.
