In case you missed it, continental cuisine is having a bit of a thing at the moment – with Wafflemeister Brighton and Befries both recently taking residence in prime locations on West Street.
The former, Wafflemeister, is already a globally renowned waffle bakery. Having gained recognition in the Middle East and Asia with existing stores in Qatar, Bahrain, UAE and Malaysia, the chain finally set up shop in Brighton in August this year.
Famous for its handmade, sweet Belgian Liège waffles offered with a wide range of topping combinations, Wafflemeister forgoes the usual batter recipe used to make waffles. Instead, they use a dough recipe for an authentic continental flavour that has already gained the waffle house a reputation as the best in London.
While most people associate waffles and crepes (also sold in the bakery) as a dessert or snack, Wafflemeister push the boundaries by also offering a range of savoury options as toppings, including salmon, all-day breakfast and couscous. Of course, sugar treats are available too, a delicious selection of authentic Italian gelato readily presented with a multitude of sauces and toppings for those with more of a sweet tooth. The bakery also serves thick shakes, frappes, smoothies and refreshing sorbets.
With over one million waffles sold across their stores every year, Wafflemeister founder and CEO, Alexander Troullier, claims its success is largely due to a long-kept secret: “The recipe we use to make our legendary waffles dates back to the 1950s and was passed down to me. I decided to share the great taste (but not the secret recipe!) by launching my first shop on London’s Oxford Street. Since then, we have opened an additional 15 bakeries worldwide. We’re delighted to add Brighton to the Wafflemeister map.”
Students with a valid NUS card can also enjoy 20% off the entire menu during September and October and 10% off at all other times.
