TheBox, a boxing-inspired fitness studio in the centre of Brighton, is celebrating its first birthday. After opening its doors last year, it has run over 2,200 classes with over 20,200 visits – it is really shaping up to be a knock-out!
The studio offers classes with boxing at the core of the workout. To accommodate this, the studio is kitted out with plenty of punch bags, gloves, and pads. The team behind TheBox is aware boxing can be intimidating and does not always appear accessible for everyone straight away. So, they offer a mix of classes with boxing’s raw simplicity as the focus.
The studio interior is functional, industrial, down to earth and has a neutral clean ambience. Located in the heart of town, the studio encourages and welcomes people of all fitness abilities and walks of life to come and get involved; their youngest member is five-years-old and oldest, 72. TheBox’s back-to-basics ethos invites clients to leave gimmicks and egos at the door so anyone can ‘have a go’ no matter what their previous experience.
Lucy Pinto and Helen Shapcott opened TheBox to the public on Saturday 21 April 2018. They met years ago through their love of both boxing and training. It turned out that they were both also considering making an investment in a local business; great minds think alike. It didn’t take them long to realise that they shared a similar can-do attitude and ambition to open a local, boxing-orientated fitness studio.
Alongside her day job as an Art Director, Lucy has been teaching fitness classes for years –20 in fact. She has stepped into the ring herself a number of times, and is Brighton’s very own action woman, having recently climbed Mont Blanc and run the Barbados Marathon.
Helen loves the buzz she gets from boxing training; it’s the only form of exercise she has found which she truly enjoys. It’s never a chore to train at TheBox. This year she took her first fight for charity at a ‘white collar’ boxing event.
Lucy and Helen’s skills complement each other well. Lucy has a wealth of experience teaching at gyms across London and Brighton. In addition, as an Art Director, she has honed her artistic eye and there isn’t much she doesn’t know about the fitness industry – fads and all! Her talent for design and her social media know-how sits well with Helen’s skills in business and finance.
Helen, a management consultant by day, is an experienced project manager and is used to getting to grips with business cases, financial forecasts, and anything with numbers. Her MBA degree in Business & Finance and entrepreneurial streak is certainly being put to good use.
To celebrate its first birthday, TheBox is running its Swag Week. There will be prizes and special edition classes every day starting Monday 22nd April. Climaxing on Saturday 27th with its second Urban Tri event, a larger than life class on Hove Lawns and the chance to win a pair of Sweaty Betty leggings! Look out for free Personal Training sessions and even more sweat and smiles than usual!
TheBox is located at 26 Castle Street, Brighton, BN1 2HD.
